Shapeshifting 13 #86 Kickoff

December 28, 2016

Hey there, Ghoul Friends!

Whew! What a whirlwind the past week has been. It’s nice to finally have time to settle in to the couch and binge watch some television while I study and research. For now, though, it’s nice to be back on the keyboard typing here.

You Ghouls keep me sane!

Okay, so, we didn’t have any submissions last week, but we all knew that, didn’t we? The bad news? No winners. The good news? No losers!

This year is coming to an end, and I, for one, have to say “good riddance” to 2016. Publicly, we’ve lost many great people in the arts world–Carrie Fisher, as of yesterday. (Hashtag, RIP Princess Leia.) Personally, this year has brought with it a lot of strife, but also a lot of amazingness! I think that’s the key to most anything. No matter how much badness there is–all the chaos, all the pain, all the tragedy–it bodes well for everyone if they simply just try to find the good in things, even if it’s only something small, only for a short while. Seeing the sunlight through the cacophony of clouds and storms can really help matters a great deal. And, at least in my opinion, it’s much healthier! I hope that all of you have been able to accentuate the positive in your own lives! For this final post of 2016, let us remember to focus on the positive as much as possible!

Alright, that’s enough chit-chat for now.

Before we get to this week’s prompt, here are a few important reminders:

Last week for THE SHAPESHIFTING 13 challenge, you were tasked with creating a story or poem in just 65 words. This week, in exactly 13 words, your challenge is to write a story or poem inspired by and using any form/definition of the following word(s):

  1. :  an instance of reflecting; especially :  the return of light or sound waves from a surface

  2. :  the production of an image by or as if by a mirror

  3. a :  the action of bending or folding back; b :  a reflected part :  fold

The General Shapeshifting 13 Rules:

  •  Challenge submissions must be fiction or poetry.
  •    Submissions must be exactly the number of words specified; no more, no less.
  •    Submissions must use the prompt as directed.
  •    Submissions should be written in response to the challenge, so they shouldn’t pre-date the kickoff post.
  •    One submission per person.
  •    Please put lengthy explanations at the end of your post, not at the beginning.
  •    Don’t forget to add the code for the challenge badge to your post.
  •    When voting, you are on the honor to not vote for your own piece.

Now, while you’re getting ready to post those wonderful words, don’t forget to grab the Shapeshifting 13 #86 badge from the right side of the page, and insert it into your post. Remember, you have until Monday @ 8pm Eastern Time to submit something. Have fun!

Until next time, au revoir, and SHARE THE GEEKDOM!
